Over the week Foals released an ep titled “Into
the Surf” in anticipation of their upcoming album “Everything Not Saved Will
be Lost Part Two”. The first song on the ep “Into the Surf” is a
more soothing track, predominantly featuring drums and piano while making use
of electronic elements, the track doesn’t feature any of the usual solos or instrumentals
that they tend to indulge in but instead every element of the track seems to
play an equal part. The next two songs in the ep “The Runner” and “Black
Bull” are more similar to the typical songs that I’m familiar with (asides
from Spanish Sahara). With these songs the EP gets progressively heavier and
powerful, it provides a nice contrast and makes for nice listening from start
to finish. I don’t know much about their upcoming album, but this ep has got me
looking forward to it.
Falkirk/Glasgow band Pleasure Heads finally released
a video on YouTube of them covering “Sound of the Underground” by Girls
Aloud. I first heard them play this song live when they put on a Mac
Demarco after show in the Blue Arrow in June and fell in love with it. They
completely flip the song on its head and make it their own, which results in a
brilliant addition to a live set. Now all we need is a recorded version on
Spotify or Apple music, though I’m not sure if there could be copyright issues
with that which could be the reason there isn’t. Other local bands have done
similar things, live I’ve seen The Dunts play “Hey Yah” by Outkast,
Gallus play “Bonkers” by Dizzee Rascal and The Roly Mo
play “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga. All of them are great attempts
and were well received by the crowd, showing each individual band’s talent.
Ticketmaster posted a new Homecoming video, this time
set in Glasgow with The Ninth Wave, Walt Disco, Lucia. The video follows
about these three bands at gigs and in their shared flat and interviews them
about the Glasgow music scene. The general consensus of the video is that
Glasgow is one of the best places to be as a band/artist. The size of the city
means that there’s this small tight and supportive scene which I imagine is
rare across the world. Watching the video gave me a weird sense of pride, it
was well brought together and can give a brilliant insight for viewers into the
city. Would definitely recommend[lm1] .
